John Finnemore is an award-winning British writer and comedian, best known for Cabin Pressure, Souvenir Programme, and Double Acts. He has received multiple honours for his radio and comedy writing, including recognition from the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain.

“Red‑Handed” (by John Finnemore) is a sharp, two‑character comedy that begins when a man unexpectedly returns home and encounters a stranger in his living room. What follows is a fast‑paced and increasingly curious conversation between the two, as each tries to assert control of the situation. The interaction quickly becomes more complicated than it first appears, with unexpected turns, clever wordplay, and shifting assumptions about who holds the upper hand. Compact and dialogue‑driven, the piece blends humour with intrigue, keeping the audience guessing while maintaining a playful, offbeat tone throughout.   “A Flock of Tigers” (by John Finnemore) is a charming two‑character comedy set during a train journey in the 1930s, where a reserved and practical man finds himself sharing a carriage with an unexpectedly lively and imaginative companion.  As their conversation unfolds, what begins as an awkward exchange steadily transforms into something more playful and unpredictable. The encounter gently challenges ideas about imagination, communication, and connection, with the tone shifting between understated humour and moments of surprising warmth. Compact and dialogue‑driven, the piece blends wit with heart, turning an ordinary situation into something quietly magical.

This 8-week workshop is designed for young people from their mid-teens to early twenties and will be held every Wednesday evening from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm, commencing on 29 July and culminating in an improvisation theatre performance on Friday 18 September. This workshop explores the fundamentals of acting alongside the spontaneity and playfulness of improvisation. Participants will build confidence, develop stage presence, strengthen listening and collaboration skills, and unlock their creative instincts in a supportive and energetic environment. Through a series of practical exercises, games, and scene work, students will learn short-form and long-form improvisation techniques, along with core acting skills that translate across a range of stage and performance styles. Ideal for beginners wanting to try something new, as well as experienced performers looking to refine their craft, Class Act offers a welcoming space to take creative risks, have fun, and grow in confidence as a performer. Class Act is a dynamic and engaging acting and improvisation workshop led by experienced theatre-maker Barry Tudor. Drawing on a rich background that includes Four’s Company, NT TIE DIE, St Leonard’s VCE and IB Theatre Studies, and the direction of senior musicals and theatre productions, Barry brings both professional expertise and a strong passion for nurturing creativity. CLASS ACT
Barry Tudor leads an 8-week acting improvisation course for 15-21 years, on Wednesday evenings from 29 July to 16 September, followed by a theatre sports competition on 18 and 19 September.

GEELONG SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL
After our award-winning turn at the inaugural event in 2025, QLTG performs the short play Knock Me Down With a Feather, at Geelong Arts Centre, on 14 and 15 August. Part of a 6-play program. Tickets from GAC.

Edge of the Heart Productions presents four connected short plays on Sunday 22 November, 2pm and 5pm.

AUDITION CALL - John Finnemore's Double Acts

QLTG is pleased to announce we are holding auditions on Monday 2 March at 7pm for
John Finnemore's Double Acts - two one-act plays
To be performed at Queenscliff Community Hall, 16 Symonds St, Queenscliff on 15-17 May (four shows).

The plays are:

• A Flock of Tigers Directed by Petrina Dakin

Required: 1 M, 1 F – 30s/40s or similar

On a train in England in 1934, Edmund – on his way to visit his young son at boarding school - is unable to use his imagination. American passenger Dolorosa is ready to help.

• Red-Handed Directed by Carol Fogg

Required: 1 M – 60s/70s, 1 M or F – 20s/30s or similar

Joel comes home unexpectedly early from work to find an unusual visitor. An older gentleman dressed in a suit, Henry is charming, suave, intelligent, well-spoken... and he just happens to be burgling Joel's house.

The plays are part of a series of radio plays written by comedy wiz John Finnemore and produced for BBC Radio 4 in 2015. The plays are two-handers and each runs for about 40 minutes.

Pinocchio delights young and old

Community Hall transformed to magical world

The QLTG production of Pinocchio in January has been a huge success, with all 10 shows sold out. Thank you for coming to our show! We were delighted to share Pinocchio's story and songs with you and we loved hearing the excited buzz from young and old as they came out of the theatre.
